The Mortgage Underwriting business unit adjudicates all residential mortgage applications to actively support business objectives. Driving quality and process efficiency, this group will ensure thorough judgement in compliance with the Companys legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as internal policies, guidelines and procedures while fostering a culture of respect, trust and integrity.
Underwriting Operational Excellence will lead a multidisciplinary team focused on process improvement initiatives and change management strategies with the goal of supporting the effectiveness of the Underwriting department. The incumbent will also have oversight to operational middle-office teams, quality programs, and learning and development for all areas in the business unit. Position Responsibilities Leadership & Workflow Management Lead an agile multidisciplinary team focused on ongoing middle to back-office process improvement initiatives
Work closely with other business areas to support new products, treasury initiatives and cross functional initiatives per strategic priorities Identify training needs, and provide on-going formal and informal mentorship and coaching to all team members as needed Identify and develop future leaders, and conduct formal and informal performance reviews Foster a high performing team environment focused on achieving all team and departmental objectives Operational Excellence Develop and deliver a change management strategy to support projects impacting the Underwriting department Lead end to end processes reviews and identify and recommend methods to improve operating efficiency and service Implement effective and timely solutions to problems or situations aligned to strategic priorities Communication Oversee and provide feedback to all communications delivered to the Underwriting department to ensure consistency in messaging Formal Education Bachelor's degree required; relevant certifications or designations preferred Related Experience 5-7 years leading a team within mortgage lending 10+ years in the residential mortgage industry, commercial is considered an asset In depth understanding of residential mortgage products, commercial is considered an asset Ability to communicate and present effectively to internal stakeholders Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills Effective people leadership and development skills
