This is the life-changing opportunity youve been looking for. Horizon Health Network (Horizon) is actively recruiting a Simulation Program Coordinator to join our team in Saint John, New Brunswick. This is a temporary full-time opportunity for 18 months.
This position is to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive simulation program for the facility for protected code blue. Responsibilities include accountability for organizing and supporting frontline staff education and training on protected code blue using high fidelity simulation. Works with Simulation Program Director and Leads, Academic Chair and Clinical Academic Head of Department of Emergency Medicine, Saint John; and Chair and Leads of Code Blue Committee Key Responsibilities Collaborates with the Department of Emergency Medicine & Emergency Program Saint John area, SJRH Simulation Program leads and Code Blue Committee, to deliver Protected Code Blue simulation training throughout the facility (in-situ), SHC, CCH, SJH, GMH, and to other Horizon priority sites. Develop program evaluation criteria and KPIs that would include, but not limited to number of programs completed, post evaluation analysis, cost savings for course instruction, accessibility, etc.
This role will collaborate with the various program nurse educators and respiratory therapy educators on ACLS, PALS and protected code blue for their areas.
Completes a needs assessment on individual units regarding specific skillsets where simulation training would benefit staff, in collaboration with nurse and RT educators Lead debriefing sessions post simulation and capture lessons learned to improve program delivery Provide interdisciplinary team-based education and training for protected code blue Develop a collaborative model that standardizes education and training for protected code blue situations. Accountability for the most effective use of resources across the zone (time management of courses/training and mannequin maintenance, etc.)
Provide leadership and oversight for ACLS and PALS courses ensuring integration with simulation training that will ultimately lead to better patient outcomes for Code Blue responses. Developing Simulation course training materials Manage the simulation training program from an organizational aspect.
Managing all aspects of the simulation training schedule: ensuring the Sim leads and labs are available when required and managing courses and advertising of courses and sessions Ordering replacement supply stock and ensuring up to date inventory as required Liaising with companies regarding new equipment and managing equipment warranties Simulation session admin (registration, evaluation forms and compiling reports) Facilitation of simulation sessions Set up and tear down of equipment for each session Equipment maintenance and cleaning (updates, changing fluid chambers, skins)
and organizing and tracking repairs Simple repair of equipment if it does not need to go back to the manufacturer Essential Qualifications Health Care Professional with clinical knowledge and expertise in medical emergencies (examples: RN, RT, Paramedic or allied health) Bachelor of Education an asset Current ACLS, TNCC and PALS certification and instructor designation Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in debriefing after critical incidents and educational scenarios Certification as Health Care Simulation Operations Specialist preferred Experience in Simulation training and program development Valid Drivers Licence Demonstrates effective adult education teaching skills in both a formal and informal setting. Demonstrated leadership abilities and critical thinking Knowledge of IPC policies and processes Proven computer technology skills in Microsoft office Demonstrated effective communication,
interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team Skills and ability in knowledge translation, policy, and emergency standards
Good previous work record including excellent attendance High regard for confidentiality Initiative and good judgement Physically able to perform assigned duties Hours of Work Primarily days M-F with need for evenings and weekend training as required and directed by Manager.
