Job description Nch'ka Development Corporation (NDC) was established in 2018 as the economic development arm of the Squamish Nation - Skwxw7mesh xwumixw. Nch'ka's mandate is to develop, manage and own the active businesses of the Nation and was created to allow for the separation of business and politics within the Squamish Nation. Our mission is to generate wealth and create prosperity from economic opportunities for current and future generations of the Squamish Nation.This role is offered to members first and the broader community if an appropriate application is unavailable. This position will mainly work out of Nchkas Head Office. Position Status This is a Permanent Full-time position.
Scope of the Position Reporting to the Finance Director and collaborating with the Human Resources Department, the Payroll and Benefits Specialist will be responsible for processing hourly and salaried pay cycles in a timely and accurate manner and coordinating benefits and pension plans for our different entities. Duties, Responsibilities, Authority and Accountabilities Payroll Process bi-weekly payroll for Ncha and its different entities in a timely and accurate manner. Perform month-end and year-end duties. Process new hires, terminations, and other staff related changes. Prepare tax forms, ROEs, remittances, and other payroll related forms. Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information. Provide payroll information by answering questions and requests. Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes. Calculate and audit leave balances such as vacation, sick leave, and personal leave. Provide in-depth analysis to support decision making.
Identifying any areas of improvement within the payroll process and leading the implementation of new payroll processes and systems that align with Nchas policies and values. Work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure the benefits and payroll services are delivered at best practice standards. Pension and Benefits Benefits enrollment, administration, and education. Reconcile payroll journal entries and forms related to Pension and Benefits. Assist in the administration of employee programs. Process employee changes and maintains digital and physical employee records. Ensure all paperwork is completed and filed appropriately whether internally or with 3rd parties. Communication Maintain accurate communication with external stakeholders. Collaborate with other departments, managers, supervisors, and peers. Resolve team member queries and support them with their P&B; needs. Other Perform other duties as required.
Reporting Responsibilities and Authorities from Supervisor Reports to the Finance Director and collaborates with the HR Manager/Department Position Requirements Relevant Post-Secondary Education in Accounting, and/or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) Certification is an asset. 3+ years of experience in a similar role performing the tasks and duties outlined in this job description. Experience with full cycle payroll preferred. Experience using payroll systems and software (e.g. Payworks) Experience with benefits administration and third-party providers relations and communication. Advanced knowledge of Office 365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience working in a First Nations organization or environment is preferred. Professional, adaptable communication style with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence others and lead by positive example.

Able to communicate complex information to stakeholders in a meaningful way. Resourceful and organized with excellent time management abilities. Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude. Experience with strategic planning, change management, and project management. Special Requirements Willing to work additional hours as required.
