In this newly created role, the Vice President of Business Strategy & Development will originate new market opportunities and secure assignments for the Professional Services platform, including Consulting, Project Management and Valuation Services. Working together with practice leaders and their teams, along with his/her business development colleagues, the Vice President, Business Strategy and Development will provide overall leadership for the creation of new revenue and service offerings to incrementally grow Avison Young’s platform of professional services. Key responsibilities are identified below:


Business Strategy

Provides leadership to the Practice Leaders within Professional Services on overall client strategy, value propositions, sales and business objectives

Works with Americas Practice leaders and business development colleagues to advance an overall approach to market based on specified growth strategies, sector targets and market opportunities

Works with the Practice Leaders to identify and vet potential businesses that would be strategic for acquisition

Builds relationships with key clients, industry organizations, teaming partners, and stakeholders to identify opportunities and growth for the business

Builds relationships with key leaders of other divisions at Avison locally and nationally to help better leverage existing relationships and uncover opportunities

Responsible for initiating and owning key client relationships across the country ensuring quality of service delivery

Origination and New Business Development

Work with the Americas business development platform and colleagues to advance market opportunities, sectors and pursuits

Identify new potential client and business opportunities for our various divisions

Originate new business for each division with direct accountability for new revenue and pipeline Revenue targets established annually for each business function.

Responsible for all prospect outreach and communication

Manage ongoing communication into other Avison divisions to discover opportunities

Provide insights on RFPs and whether they are worth pursuing toward “go/no go” decisions

Proposal Management & Opportunity Tracking

Take a leadership role with multi‐service line pursuits and proposals, and work with AY’s marketing team to advance specific pursuits

Responsible for the oversight and timely delivery of all Professional Services proposals, ensuring Avison Young is properly communicating value proposition and overall differentiation within the marketplace and communications

Responsible for the accuracy of the data in Hubspot/CRM system allowing for both the Practice Leaders to better manage their business and for Leadership to have better clarity into the pipeline for business planning

Seek out innovation and best practices across all areas of the role – bring new ideas and thinking to client work and internal processes and operations as appropriate



- Commercial Real Estate Professional Services business development and sales experience through successful positions and reputation earned through another leading enterprise.

- Proven track record of growth and strong performance, including the development and sales of client contracts and marketplace opportunities

- Strong leadership, interpersonal skills and problem-solving ability with strong “followership” among direct reports.

- Business development, client relationship and account management experience

- Strong technical skills, ability to deliver with proven track record

- Strong sense of urgency to achieve timely, quality results

- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

- Ability to collaborate and lead teams in a collaborative and inclusive environment

- Strong organizational and time management skills

Required Qualifications:

- University Degree in business or real estate or management

- Minimum 10-15 years’ experience in commercial real estate in a professional services sales and development role

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, ability to effectively communicate with teams, clients, personnel and senior management

- Proven leadership excellence including growing a business and client opportunities.

- Experience in Business Development

- Proficient in Microsoft suite of products and excellence in business development and sales leadership through proven results in profitable and effective business.

Other requirements:

- Ability to travel

- Ability to participate in all client and industry events as effective public speaker/contributor
