Position Overview



The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre embraces the goal of Jordan’s Principle to ensure that all children and youth have access to the health services they need in a timely manner. This Mental Health Clinician position will focus on providing telehealth and in person mental health service to First Nations communities to support this initiative.



This position is based in Winnipeg with some travel to First Nations communities throughout Manitoba.



The Mental Health Clinician will build collegial relationships with service providers in the communities that will support capacity building in the area of child and adolescent mental health with a focus on completing assessments, developing/implementing treatment plans, and providing follow-up support for those individuals returning to their community.



The Mental Health Clinician will work in collaboration with psychiatrists, primary care physicians, nursing station staff, community service providers, clients and their families.



Experience

Experience working with a variety of First Nations communities; their culture and healing practices.

Experience developing and delivering mental health education is considered an asset.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

Qualified as a Psychiatric Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker (MSW) or Family Therapist (MMFT).

Certification/Licensure/Registration

Staff not licensed/registered with a legislated professional body must be registered/certified with an appropriate Association.

Qualifications and Skills

Training and demonstrated skill in several of the following areas: clinical assessment, individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, play therapy and systems intervention

Core knowledge of child and adolescent development and mental health issues in childhood and adolescence

An appreciation and understanding of the impact that colonization has had on First Nations communities in Manitoba

Skilled in building collaborative working partnerships with a variety of service providers, Jordan’s Principle service coordinators/case managers, clients and families.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
