The Sheet Metal Foreman under the direction of HVAC Superintendent and Project Manager, is responsible for managing and providing leadership to Journeyman and Apprentice Sheet Metal workers at TechCanada. The Sheet Metal Foreman directs and coordinates planning and the implementation of projects and is responsible for installing, repairing and/or replacing of sheet metal and/or HVAC systems, components and devices. This position requires knowledge of the residential, commercial, and the industrial construction industry. Specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry.

The incumbent must maintain an up to date knowledge of codes and standards and ensure that projects being completed are in compliance at all times.

Job Duties

· Direct and coordinate sheet metal/hvac planning and implementation ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and work order requirements

· Provide onsite direction and leadership for all of the activities of apprentices

· Report work compliance with relevant codes, standards and procedures

· Provide required sheet metal/hvac calculations as required

· Prepare specifications for purchasing of required materials and equipment

· Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems

· Create technical reports, documentation, calculations and sketches

· Develop sustainable work relationships to ensure positive resolutions with all contacts

· Perform electrical studies as assigned

· Create conceptual designs for assigned projects

· Create specifications as needed

· Prepare cost estimates and equipment layouts

· Oversee the implementation of designs

· Provide resource estimates and schedules for projects

· Make technical decisions

· Direct and coordinate other electrical parts of the project team

· Conduct evaluations of team members' progress; providing coaching and further training

· Inspect installations for quality, ensuring that codes and standards are met

· Ensure job safety is maintained at all times by all employees

· Maintain appropriate personal protective equipment, ensuring staff are utilizing it properly

· Maintain records of project resources

· Lead and / or participate in department training programs

· Maintain up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and stay current with industry trends and best practices

· Any other duties as required


· Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required

· Red Seal Journeyman ticket required

· Demonstrated understanding of HVAC theories and principles

· Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills

· Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner

· Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian sheet metal/hvac standards

· Demonstrated knowledge of required code for operation's geographical area

· Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives

· Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills

· Able to apply right mathematical methods and formulas to problem solving

· Able to create alternative solutions to problems

· Excellent time management and project management skills

· High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning

· Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures

· Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures

· Effective leadership skills required

Work Conditions

· Some travel may be required

· Ability to attend and conduct presentations

· Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

· Ability to physically implement designs

· Overtime as required

· May be exposed to construction sites

· Weekend work may be required

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $35.00-$38.50 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Prince George, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)


- Secondary School (preferred)


- construction: 1 year (preferred)

- Sheet Metal Foreman: 5 years (preferred)

- Journeyman Sheet Metal: 5 years (preferred)

- Residential Sheet Metal: 5 years (preferred)

- Commercial Sheet Metal: 5 years (preferred)

- Industrial Sheet Metal: 2 years (preferred)


- Class 5 Drivers Licence (preferred)

Willingness to travel:

- 75% (preferred)
