Whitecap Dakota First Nation is seeking a certified Water Treatment Plant Operator (WTPO). Reporting to the Director of Housing and Public Works, the WTPO will support the operation of a water treatment facility which includes the operation and maintenance of equipment.


· Undertake routine inspections and testing as required by regulations and operational requirements and to keep current all daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checklists and testing records and of all inspections and testing for the Water Treatment and Sewage Disposal Plants

· Ensure that the First Nation’s Water Treatment Plant operations meet and exceed regulatory and legally required guidelines for water quality and wastewater treatment

· Respond to alarm calls and/or make minor repairs to all plant systems and mechanical distribution lines in the distribution systems

· Share knowledge with the other WTPO and participate in training plans for junior WTPO:

· Undertake and complete any other designated facilities maintenance of the Plants

· Work together with the other WTPO on scheduled maintenance of infrastructure, facilities, etc.

· Ensure the cleanliness and safety of the facility

· Provide back up to the other WTPO when on days off

· Manage supplies for each facility

· Undergo ongoing training as required; and

· Any other related duties as assigned.


· Minimum 3 years or recent and relevant experience

· Applicants must possess, as a minimum, Class II Certification in water treatment and Level I in all other fields of certification which include, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment. Possession of Class III certifications in water treatment and Class II in water distribution and wastewater plant operations will be an asset

· Knowledgeable in biological filter/Reverse Osmosis Water Plant operations and processes

· Knowledgeable in Waste-Water Collection and Treatment processes

· Be able to undertake the physical demands required with plant operations and maintenance

· Computer literate with competencies in SCADA and windows-based software

· Knowledge and understanding of lab testing procedures and protocols

· Excellent mechanical knowledge and experience with pipe repairs, distribution systems and physical plant systems/assets

· Team player with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels within the organization

· A commitment to excellence and understanding of the over-all responsibility which is encompassed within the role as a plant operator; and

· Must possess a valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.

The successful candidate shall be subject to a Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.

Salary: $55,000.00-$65,000.00 per year

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)


- Water Treatment Operator: 3 years (preferred)

- Level 1 Wastewater Treatment Certification (required)
