About Elder Help Peel

Elder Help Peel, a legally incorporated Not-for-Profit organization serving seniors throughout Peel Region, is seeking volunteers to assist in their efforts to better serve seniors through the Community. Elder Help Peel fosters community connections and independence in seniors through education, support services and social activities.

Reporting to the Volunteer Coordinator, Elder Help Peel is looking for a data entry clerk, will be responsible for various duties including, data entry, creating schedules, creating reports, screening potential applicants, processing criminal checks, answering phones and greeting visitors.

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications:

- Proven administrative capability using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office software related to data entry/document writing/creating presentations/electronic filing and archiving

- Answering and directing all incoming calls, and maintaining call log

- Ensuring all incoming calls and visitors are received efficiently and professionally

- Maintain clients, listings, and filling system

- Upload the work done by other employees to SharePoint, database/portals

- Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit organization will be an asset

- Bondable (you will be required to provide a police background check)

- Oral communication in English required

- Must live within 25 KM of Brampton Ontario

- Ability to commute, must have own transportation, public transit

- Ability to type swiftly and accurately

- Strong communication skills both verbal and written

- Organized and effective time management skills

- Assisting with projects and support various departments as needed

Physical Effort:

- This role involves frequent movement around the office

- Occasional lifting of light objects, less than 25 lbs

Work Environment:

- Hybrid work environment – mixture of in-office and remote work

- Sitting at a desk and computer terminal for extended periods of time each day (4 to 7 hours)

- Occasionally required to move around the office


- 7 hour shift, 3 times per week 21 hours per week

- 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.


- Data entry: 1 year (preferred)

- Office administration: 1 year (preferred)


- Practice your skills and knowledge in a not for profit environment

- Experience within a business working environment

- Bulk up your resume, references and community networking opportunities

- Volunteer orientation provided

- Training, supervision and support provided

- Cost of a current Vulnerable Screening Check Level Three reimbursed to volunteer, if clear


- Passion for seniors, patient, caring, empathetic, and compassionate (able to establish a good rapport with Elder Help Peel clients)

- Good listening, interpersonal, and communication skills

- Respect for and adherence to confidentiality at all times

- Minimum of 6 months commitment (prefer 6-8 months, or more), with a minimum requirement of 16 hours per week (see Time Commitment, below)

- Reliable access to the Internet and devices/software that are suitable for the 'role' (i.e. virtual communication, if needed)

- Must complete a two hour volunteer orientation session

4. Complete and clear a Vulnerable Screening Check Level Three

5. Receive notice of application status

6. Complete online orientation session
