Your Opportunity:

Caring for nearly 220,000 patients each year, Rockyview General Hospital (RGH) offers a full range of acute and outpatient care with over 600 inpatient beds. RGH overlooks the beautiful scenic shores of the Glenmore Reservoir which is surrounded by popular pathways and bikeways in Southwest Calgary. Units 93 and 94 are internal medicine units. The unit staff and leadership team partner closely with the internal medicine physicians to provide high quality care to patients with complex multi-system presentations. The Patient Care Manager (PCM) – Units 93 & 94 is supported by two unit managers and reports directly to the Executive Director – Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology & Acute Geriatrics.

The PCM is responsible for the overall administration and management of staff as well as ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, efficient and patient-centered care within the internal medicine units. The PCM is responsible and accountable for providing direction, decision-making, leadership and organization over the activities of the units in support of patient care and the goals of the medicine portfolio.


The Patient Care Manager (PCM) is a key leadership role within the medical portfolio at RGH. The PCM is responsible for budget planning, resource allocation, implementing and maintaining standards of practice; hiring, supervising and evaluating professional and support staff; facilitating collaborative relationships with physicians and other units; creating and sustaining a healthy work environment; and leading and facilitating change processes that improve outcomes in quality of care and patient satisfaction. You will be expected to demonstrate innovative, motivational and progressive leadership and be experienced in change management. You will demonstrate leadership at a unit and site level supporting various site initiatives. You will be an effective communicator with strong organizational and influential skills, ability to set direction, foster partnerships and achieve organizational goals, demonstrate excellent analytical and decision-making skills, have a client focused orientation and demonstrate a commitment to providing quality services. Your ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders including patients, families, RGH staff, physicians, and community stakeholders is essential to this role.

Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other healthcare related degree. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable college or licensing body. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Level C - Health Care Provider.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role in a healthcare organization of significant size and complexity. A demonstrated ability with decision making, coaching and leading change, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to effectively manage budgets and ensure appropriate staffing levels. A record of accomplishment as an effective communicator, with strong organizational skills and a proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Healthcare or Business Administration. Leadership experience in an acute care environment. Quality Improvement certification (i.e. AHS AIW Green Belt, Black Belt or equivalent). Change Management certification (i.e. AHS PROSCI or equivalent). Completion of leadership development courses and a demonstrated pattern of professional development and growth.
