Your Opportunity:

We are excited about expanding our professional teams and would like to invite Client Care Assistants who are interested in working to apply on the positions that are currently available with the Staffing Service Center. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the Edmonton Zone Addiction and Mental Health Program’s Principles of Care and Alberta Health Services’ values. Reporting to the Relief Team Program Manager and as a member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team, the CCA is responsible for direct patient care and participating in team meetings. Henwood offers a safe and supportive facility for individuals seeking treatment for alcohol and other drug addictions.

We need experienced, caring, strength based professionals to complement our team. Under the supervision of the Counseling Team Supervisor (Addictions Counselor IV), you will work as part of the team to assist in the provision of supportive care to clients with addictions, user groups and the general supervision of the building. You will also ensure a safe and secure facility, respond to client requests, and communicate effectively with other staff and contribute to a therapeutic environment through interaction with clients. The successful candidate should demonstrate: strong interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills, strong verbal communication skills (English language proficiency is required), congruent non-verbal communication skills, active listening skills, demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and decision making abilities, ability to work independently while maintain collaboration with team members, ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team.


As a Client Care Assistant, you will work as a team member with all staff assisting in the provision of supportive care to clients with addictions. Your primary duties include providing supportive care to clients, ensuring a safe and secure facility, responding to client requests, communicating effectively with other staff and contributing to a therapeutic environment through interaction with clients. As part of an interprofessional team, you will contribute to the delivery of residential services to persons with an addiction promoting client respect, autonomy, health and improved quality of life. You will support clients to participate in activities of daily living, recreational and social activities, and educational and employment activities. You will also work collaboratively with other health and service providers to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current Applied Suicide Intervention Training certification required. Current Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training certification required. Basic computer and email skills required. English language proficiency is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in an adult acute practice setting as a Health Care Assistant, Mental Health Aide or Psychiatric Aide. Experience working with clients with addictions and mental health concerns. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise within initiative and self-directedness.
