Your Opportunity:

The Mental Health Therapy Assistant - Mobile Response Team Worker is responsible for responding to calls to assist individuals and families experiencing an addiction and/or mental health crisis. The MRTW will assess the crisis and the needs of the individual and through the use of therapeutic communication, the MRTW works to stabilize the client and make the appropriate referral for follow up. The MRTW works extremely independently as this is an on-call 24 hour-a-day position. Workers must be flexible and creative in dealing with the many and varied situations. Additionally, they must have superb communication skills. Exercising good judgment in snap decisions is critical.


As a Mental Health Therapy Assistant, you will assist with the provision of individual, group and recreational programming to inpatients and outpatients receiving Mental Health & Psychiatric Services. Community support staff enabling adults living with mental health issues to experience supports. You will fulfill four key roles: - Service Provider: Supports the patient/client and assists the therapist with direct and indirect client care and non-client service provision. - Collaborator: Works effectively with internal and external partners to optimize services. - Life Long Learner: Enhances competency and service through reflective practice and continuous learning. - Paraprofessional: applies professionalism and ethics to the provision of person-centered care and participation within the multidisciplinary team.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma in Social Services or equivalent may be considered. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Current First Aid certification. Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI). Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST). Must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator's Licence.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2-3 years working in a health care or human services setting with individuals impacted by addiction and/or mental health issues. Knowledge of community support services relevant to client population. Knowledge and skills in addressing crisis situations and well developed reasoning and problem solving skills required. Effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Conflict resolution skills preferred and must be flexible and able to adapt when faced with competing demands.
