The Health Care Aide (HCA) in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Under supervision and direction of the RN, or licensed healthcare professional, the HCA provides direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort: turning, boosting, transferring, and safety of the patient, and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. In the CVICU the HCA is also required to dedicate a significant amount of time to restocking, organizing supplies, and maintaining general organization and cleanliness of the unit.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant,
you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must be able to proficiently communicate in English both verbally and written. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Proven effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors, and multi-disciplinary team members. Well-developed time management skills. Basic computer skills.
Previous critical care or cardiac experience an asset.
