The Oil and Gas Division plays an integral role in fostering the sustainable development of the province’s oil and gas resources to create a cleaner global future and good jobs for British Columbians.



The Legislation and Tenure Policy Analyst supports the ministry’s legislative, regulatory and policy initiatives by coordinating and leading research, analysis,

development and implementation under the Petroleum and Natural Gas Act and the Oil and Gas Activities Act.  The position has a critical role in delivering a key ministerial mandate by supporting the development of new regulations under the Fuel Price Transparency Act, which is aimed at ensuring that companies involved in the fuel supply chain are held publicly accountable for unexplained markups that increase gasoline and diesel prices for consumers. 



The Legislation and Tenure Policy Analyst supports a wide range of ministry legislative initiatives and works directly with legislative counsel to draft regulations for various ministry programs, including regulations to implement policy frameworks developed by other areas of the ministry.

Job Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:



- Degree in law, public administration, natural resource management, resource economics, environmental studies, or geography or a related discipline; OR,

- An equivalent amount of education and/or experience may be considered.

- Experience in a public sector or similar regulatory environment, researching, developing, or assisting in the development of legislative, regulatory, operational or program policy and conducting policy analysis. Preference may be given to candidates with more than 3 years of this experience.

- Experience with common legal instruments such as statutes, regulations, and orders and the legislative process, including the enactment of statutes, regulations, orders in council, and ministerial orders.

- Experience dealing with issues of a cross-ministry or agency nature.

- Experience preparing a variety of detailed, coherent, and complex policy-related documentation (for example: reports, statistical or financial analyses, briefing materials, etc.)
