Up to 3 seasonal auxiliary positions are available at our Tree Seed Centre in Surrey for 28-day seasonal hires, with an opportunity to extend until March 31, dependent on seasonal crop workload and applicant suitability.  No relocation allowance or accommodations will be provided.

The Labourer position is responsible for carrying out a variety of general labour activities related to cone and seed operations.



The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is the Province’s agency responsible for land and resource management in B.C., operating on a provincial land base of over 94 million hectares.

 The Forest Improvement and Research Management Branch (FIRM) consists of headquarters in Victoria, five seed orchard complexes that currently produce 55% of the improved tree seed supply, and the Provincial Tree Seed Centre (TSC), located in Surrey.  FIRM’s mission is to protect, manage, and conserve British Columbia’s forest genetic resources through excellence in cone and seed services, seed production, policy, planning, decision support, information management, and communication.  The TSC processes, tests, registers and stores both private and public seed used for Crown land reforestation.  The TSC also safeguards the provincial seed supply and ensures adequate genetic diversity of tree seed used for reforestation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the experience and qualifications as outlined below:



- Secondary school graduation or equivalent.

- Prefer manual labour or outdoor working experience; especially working with plants, i.e. tree planter, gardener, landscaper, orchard worker, cone picker, forestry worker, or equivalent training and experience.

- Prefer one year of experience in a high-volume production environment involving a perishable product, or a combination of education and experience, such as one year of related experience and relevant job training courses.

- Prefer experience in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry.

- Valid BC driver’s licence is preferred.

- Valid Lift Truck Certification is preferred.
