Job Description



The AVP, Regulatory Risk Management and Global Control Function Coordination is responsible for reasonably ensuring that Manulife is meeting its regulatory risk management obligations on a global basis. This is a key global compliance oversight role. In addition, this role is also tasked with reasonably ensuring that compliance is closely coordinating with the other key global control functions, including but not limited to Enterprise Risk, Operational Risk, Information Risk and Internal Audit.

 Finally, the position is the key compliance liaison to the Integrated Approach Program (IAP) and is tasked from a compliance perspective with reasonably ensuring that Manulife is effectively leveraging its governance, risk and compliance (GRC) platform (currently Archer), including but not limited to reasonably ensuring data is up to date and periodically reporting on and tracking Corrective Action Plans or CAPS.



Key Accountabilities:



Individual Accountabilities:



- Global Regulatory Risk Management Oversight. (Approximately 20%)



- Reasonably ensuring that compliance is closely coordinating with the other key global control functions, including but not limited to, Enterprise Risk, Operational Risk, Information Risk and Internal Audit, including but not limited to regular collaboration with the AVP, Audit Professional Services and the AVP Operational Risk. (Approximately 20%)



- Key compliance liaison to the Integrated Approach Program and is tasked from a compliance perspective with reasonably ensuring that Manulife is effectively leveraging its governance, risk and compliance (GRC) platform (currently Archer) including but not limited to reasonably ensuring data is up to date and periodically reporting on and tracking Corrective Action Plans or CAPS. - Develop balanced metrics and deliver reports that measure the performance of the Compliance function. Develop and implement enhanced tools to support effective and efficient practices. (Approximately 20%)



- Develop and deliver products and services in support of the Compliance Function including detailed regulatory risk management methodology and practice guides, and related training to help ensure Manulife compliance is meeting the highest of ethical and quality standards. (Approximately 20%)



Key Shared Accountabilities:



- Assist the Senior Compliance Management Team in the development of compliance policies, strategy and direction; continually improve compliance and administration processes leveraging technology to the fullest.



- Assist the Senior Compliance Management Team in the oversight of ongoing improvement initiatives taking into account alignment of compliance best practices.



- Oversee conferences of the global compliance function.



- Work with the Senior Compliance Management Team to reasonably ensure effective coordination with other key global functions, including but not limited to Information Technology, Data Analytics and Communications.

- Collaborating with Senior Compliance Management Team to obtain consensus on regulatory risk management methodologies and practices.



- Meeting Senior Compliance Management Team expectations including the Global Compliance Chief.



- Prioritization and time management in a multi-tasking environment; meeting strategic objective commitments while maintaining flexibility to meet changing priorities.



- Driving continuous improvement in quality and cost effectiveness of services provided.



- Exercising and demonstrating sound business judgment.



- Keeping current with new compliance techniques, company policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, and knowledge of the COSO Framework.



- Benchmarking with peers in other global compliance functions in financial services. 



Competencies:



- Superior written and oral communication skills.



- Knowledge of compliance (financial, operational and system development) methodologies, control frameworks and risk management practices, and regulatory requirements.



- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse environments and cultures, over a number of geographically dispersed office locations.

- Strong relationship skills including a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with staff at all levels.



- Proven leadership and management skills in achieving departmental, project and individual objectives, and in developing staff.



- University degree plus 8 years business experience including 5 years in compliance.

Working Condition:



- Will need to travel on occasion, mostly in North America and at times in Asia.
