Lead Full Stack engineer in GFT Finance, Solution Delivery is responsible for the execution of development initiatives aligned with the strategic vision of our business partners.  The Finance Systems team manages a complex SOX compliant infrastructure with many inter-related components that provide the repository of financial information required to support the Source of Earnings and other general ledger financial reporting at MFC.

They also support the Enterprise-wide critical cash management and treasury solutions including the banking interfaces.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that new solutions and enhancements are delivered effectively and efficiently without impacting the service levels for the Finance and Treasury clients. This will be done by providing technical leadership to an existing development team located in Toronto.  

They must develop and support strong working relationships with internal and external architecture, infrastructure and operations teams.  These relationships are critical for ushering newly developed business solutions or enhancements into production and for swift management of production incidents when they occur.

Given the increased importance on risk and audit controls, including SOX, they must keep a close watch on the control environment and ensure that system controls and processes are correctly implemented, executed and are sustainable.


- Work closely with the Financial Processes and Modernization (FP&M;) teams to develop strategies and plans for implementing changes to existing or building new business solutions.

- Acting as the Finance systems Subject Matter Expert, work closely with the GFT architecture  team on architecture and system design to ensure it meets the business requirements, fit into the overall Finance systems target architecture and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the financial data and cash management processes, and through innovation, find ways to enhance and optimize the business functions. 

- Manages a team of engineers and business analysts to designs, develops, tests, delivers, maintains and improves business applications , works across full-stack through entire software development lifecycle

- Manage resources and detailed project plans to meet the target dates required to support business initiatives while managing the risks associated with systems changes.   

- Collaborate with other areas in GFT and Manulife to attain support that may be required to complete development initiatives.

- Uphold thorough and accurate documentation procedures within the department to communicate requirements, design, testing and implementation strategies and plans for all development initiatives.

- Continuously interact with GFT Operations teams by involving them at appropriate stages of analysis, development, testing and implementation handovers.

- Leadership and talent management of the team of developers and systems analysts, both onshore and offshore.

- Ensure SDLC, release nad change management processes are followed for all development initiatives without impacting Sox and Audit compliance.

- Collaborate with the GFT Information Risk Management team to ensure that security and reliability of all systems is maintained throughout development lifecycle.

- Contribute to and execute the strategic roadmap toward GFT Finance target state architecture.

Job Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Competencies):

- Strong technical knowledge of Application Development and Testing methodologies

- Strong project management skills; balancing current and future needs, scheduling work, allocating and re-adjusting work load to keep the various project initiatives on schedule, resolving resource conflicts.

- Strong leadership and people management skills including career planning and a focus on innovative, collaborative culture

- Demonstrated skill in building effective working relationships.

- Good understanding of accounting processes and cash management processes and their associated systems and concepts.

- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and exercise judgment in a changing environment and able to adapt and respond to rapid changes and shifting priorities

- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

- Excellent communication skills.
