Position Overview

The Financial Analyst is responsible for reviewing financial and statistical data, identifying financial management issues, and working with management at all levels to develop and implement plans to remain within budget. This position reports to the Director of Finance, Acute & LTC. The incumbent will support Acute Care sites and Clinical Programs by preparing and providing reliable and useful financial analysis on a timely basis.

The incumbent will:

- Assist management with business planning, project costing and funding transfers and associated letter preparation;

- Assist management with forecast preparation;

- Responsible for allocation and management of provincial funding between sectors and sites;

- Responsible for monthly reporting and budget management associated with Medical Remuneration;

- Liaise with sites and programs to manage funding transfer process and report on discrepancies.


- 3 to 5 years related accounting and finance experience

- Knowledge of general accounting principles and methodologies

- Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and reports

- Knowledge of the Health Care system, preferably in the Acute Care Sector

- Knowledge of CICA reporting requirements under Public Sector Accounting Standards preferred

- Excellent computer skills including spreadsheet and database applications in a network environment

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

- CPA required

Qualifications and Skills

- Proven ability and aptitude for recognizing, investigating and analyzing problems, and for developing innovative solutions to complex situations

- Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and reports

- Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate and work effectively with staff at all levels

- Comfortable working in a team oriented environment where the range of responsibilities is varied

- Ability to work independently and willingness to assume additional responsibilities

- Ability to work under stressful conditions

- Ability to plan, schedule, and complete work in a concise, clear, accurate and timely manner

This term position may end earlier as outlined in your collective bargaining agreement

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
