We’re looking for Platform Reliability Engineer competent in mainframe technology: specifically,

someone who is passionate about enabling visibility of application health and performance data.  I know what you’re thinking….  either “Hey, I’m one of those!” and you want to know more or “What on earth is this? It sounds awesome!”!  Keep reading to learn more!

Our team provides consulting and application monitoring services to other teams, creates application dashboards and finds innovative ways to surface operational data.  We are an integral part of a transformation to be a data-driven organization.  Our goal is to facilitate quick and easy understanding of the customer and business partner experience for Canadian Segment applications.  It’s fast paced, there’s never a dull moment, and you’ll be part of a unified team that truly enjoys working together and helping other people every day.

Okay, that does sound exciting…  What are some of the responsibilities?

- Consulting with other teams to provide application monitoring strategy or data analysis

- Building new application monitors, dashboards, and creative solutions

- Using your problem-solving skills to help uncover application issues and perform root cause analysis

- Create visibility of our myriad of data and help our partners understand this data

- Supporting and enhancing our current toolset

- Promoting reliability engineering within our team and beyond

- Managing communications with our allies in the business using terms and language that they understand (translating Tech-speak to business language)

- Maintaining positive relationships with many internal teams

- Adapting to quickly changing priorities

- Playing a part of our on-call rotation to provide afterhours toolset support in our 7x24x365 model

I’m glad you asked.  Some of these are definite needs and some are “nice to haves”


- 3+ years’ experience working in a technical role in IT

- Experience with Cobol, DB2, CICS, VSAM, JCL, SAS, Endevor and CA Workload

- Coding experience with PowerShell, Python, node.js or similar

- Experience with monitoring tools: New Relic, Dynatrace, CA APM, SiteScope, PRTG

- You must be a data nerd and be passionate about using data to advance our effectiveness and enable superb customer experiences

- You must be self-driven and able to work independently with an insatiable appetite for learning

- A focus and passion for creating excellent customer experiences

- Innovation, creativity, and curiosity

- Clear, concise, tactful communication skills

- Confidence to challenge and ask hard questions of the wisest of our colleagues, technical teams and vendors

- Caring for your fellow human beings. Our team is a family that cares for one another and plays together.  Team fit is as important to us as is skill set.

Nice to Haves:

- Experience using Jenkins, GIT, automation tools, R, PowerBI or other data tools

- Experience mentoring and leading by example

- You understand Reliability Engineering and the benefits of it

- A sense of humor because we want to enjoy doing our very serious, strategic work

- Vendor management skills

- Use of The Force - but we’d be just as glad if you possess the ability to influence others, negotiate, adapt to change and overcome barriers.

- An understanding of the Financial Services or Insurance Industry and/or Large Enterprise knowledge

- Any ITIL™ Foundations or Practitioner level certifications (especially Support Operations)
