Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Supervisor - Molding is responsible for overseeing daily product quality for all shifts in the molding department, ensuring that customer specifications are met. The incumbent will be a technical resource for molding supervision in the department, and ensure that all products made and shipped to our customers are market ready. The incumbent has primary responsibility to manage and supervise all QA auditors and lab technicians.

Responsibilities in this role extend to supporting the Quality Engineering function in proactively identifying and driving Continuous Improvement projects to increase product quality, overall manufacturing efficiency and productivity while reducing cost and waste.


In this role you are responsible for supervision of quality auditors and lab technicians, all shifts, managing schedules and providing coaching and feedback to team members on performance.

You communicate daily with auditors and evaluate daily holds, with factual information, disposition product and if needed correct product holds while ensuring that your team are conducting their audits and addressing non-conformance; complete Product Hold Request form (PHR) and quarantine suspect stock.

You will be responsible for improving uptime and OEE metrics as well as manage utility scanning, inventory levels and QSCOT.

You will be counted on to support and drive Continuous Improvement: This entails identifying opportunities and driving continuous improvements projects, either leading or participating in projects, while working in partnership with peers to implement process change and physical upgrades.

A key task will be ensuring full communication of all information to next shift to ensure smooth running of Print production by conducting daily audits, formal communication meetings and collecting data in order to submit daily production reports

You will be a role model for compliance with plant safety and HACCP, using appropriate PPE , following food safety and cGMP processes and procedures

You will draw on your Quality Engineering expertise to support our Molding department in solving quality and technical issues; ensuring that the Plant and its Quality Systems evolve and continuously improve as it relates to Quality and Food Safety requirements.

In this role you will support Continuous Improvement objectives and providing leadership in ensuring projects are supported with technical and troubleshooting assistance.

In order to be fully effective, you will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of injection molding, thermoforming and IML technologies as well as support the Printing department in investigating and resolving Molding related quality concerns, and supporting Molding in working with stakeholders to ensure proper execution of all Test requirements (including sign off) for new equipment/products/processes.

You will ensure that product quality inspection and procedures are in place and are being properly executed to minimize defects and protect internal and external customers, in addition to tracking timely and effective follow up on customer product quality issues backed by thorough communication and reporting to stakeholders

Your role includes conducting thorough investigations and root cause analysis of issues and internal problems within quality, using the Polytainers problem solving model, to effectively correct deficiencies and prevent reoccurrence and assisting auditors in investigating / troubleshooting product quality issues.

You will also attend the daily production meetings, report quality issues (PHRs) and investigate product issues that arise from the meeting as well as access daily quality reports from molding and printing to determine validity and ensure that all affected molded product is held.

This role includes responsibility for maintenance and calibration of QA lab testing equipment, scales and gages in the molding production facility and providing feedback to external vendors responsible for calibration of equipment with regards to performance of equipment and gages to ensure equipment gets the required maintenance.

Performing monthly calibration of calipers, and micrometers in QA molding lab and maintaining a log of all equipment calibrated and maintained in QA molding lab and production floor by vendor to ensure equipment is serviced prior to due date.

Other core responsibilities include:

Coordinating provision of technical information to internal customers such as Sales, Printing, and Engineering, e.g. container measurements, evaluations of competitor products and working with sales, engineering and operations to assist in provision of technical data for external customer quality issues.

Reporting on molding quality issues from both molding & printing at the daily molding department meeting.

Communicating quality issues to appropriate molding department management in a timely fashion to initiate corrective actions and reporting on quality issues and any other issues of significance with quality assurance team and ensuring the quality assurance manager is kept abreast of issues being dealt with.


Educational Requirements: Post-secondary education, preferably in food safety, quality or injection molding technology, or Quality Engineering

Certifications: ASQ Certification (CQA/CQE/CQT) preferred.

Minimum Experience/Field: Demonstrated strong supervisory skills is an essential attribute Experience in a midsize to large manufacturing environment with fast paced made to order processes. Minimum 3 years quality supervision experience preferably in a high volume environment, with a preference for food industry experience or injection molding industry background.

Computer Skills: Good PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Communication Skills: A skilled influencer with strong ability to positively impact desired behaviors. Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills

Additional Education/Experience/Skills: Ability to effectively coach, positively influence and support Team Members


Outstanding interpersonal and people management skills, with strong ability to influence actions without direct reporting authority, is essential to this role.
