Hours: 35 Hours Weekly, Full-time Summer and Fall Student Position (Or Fall/ Winter)

Wage: $ 19.00 /hr

Start Date: May 15th (or as close to this date as school allows)

End Date: After two terms 2021 (summer and Fall)

Must be flexible and willing to work some nights, weekends, and holidays. Remote work will be possible, with in-person work arranged as health and safety guidelines allow.

This position will be responsible for managing and coordinating the Squamish Arts Council's roster of annual events and festivals including its flagship festival the Wind Festival for the Arts.

The Wind Festival for the Arts is an important community event and is currently the only dedicated free-of-charge arts and culture festival for Squamish. This position will be integral to the success and advancement of the 2021 festival and provide an incredible learning opportunity for the student to work with industry professionals and stakeholders.

This position will work closely with the Festival Director and will be supervised by both the Festival Director and Executive Director.

Core projects of the Festival & Events Coordinator will be:

- The coordination, planning, and successful execution of the Wind Festival for the Arts, Random Acts of Arts, Anonymous Art Show, and Squamish Artwalk.

- Assisting the programs team in implementing the summer series Amped in the Park.

- Developing reports and managing communications for SAC festival and events.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:

Communication & Marketing

- Develop and maintain the SAC and festival website, its social media handles, and content.

- Grow online audience, user engagement and loyalty on all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and more).

- Monitor and respond to comments and messages on all SAC channels.

- Create marketing materials, social media graphics, organic and original social media content.

- Implement and design creative content for audience engagement.

- Follow and enforce all policy in regards to copyright of images, artist’s rights, and information sharing and ensure that appropriate credits are given and permissions are received.

- Act as a representative of the Squamish Arts Council during all festival and events to further the brand and identity of the Squamish Arts Council.

Event Coordination

- Recruit, train, manage and supervise volunteers. Further, develop and create recommendations for the SAC volunteer program.

- Provide support to the Festival Director for all planning activities.

- Coordinate, under the direction of the Festival Director and Executive Director programs and events like the Artisan Market, the Film night, artist demonstrations, and live music

- Secure required materials, supplies, and resources within budget and work with community partners.


- Excellent communication skills as a writer and marketer, coupled with public speaking abilities;

- Strong knowledge of all social media platforms and strategy such as using Facebook Ads, Google AdWords, Mail Chimp, and Squarespace;

- Must have a working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Mail Chimp, Dropbox, Google, and Squarespace.

- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office;

- Proficient with Adobe Creative programs;

- Preference will be given to candidates with some advertising or media experience and an appreciation for the Arts;

- Ability to develop work plans, establish priorities, solve problems, and work within deadlines;

- Strong time management and multitasking abilities;

- Excellent project management skills;

- Excellent attention to detail;

- Experienced in Graphic Design.

- Ability to work independently and in a team setting;

- Ability to complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner.


- Skills in digital media arts (video editing or creation, podcasting etc.) an asset CMS and HTML coding an asset;

- Proven ability to develop a large online following and set trending content an asset;

- Working knowledge of Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator, Light room or other editing or post-production software;

- Experience writing press releases an asset;

- Knowledge of print production process and experience in dealing with marketing communications suppliers an asset;

- Specific knowledge of Squamish community, history, and demographics, and the Squamish Arts Council an asset.

- Valid Driver’s License and reliable vehicle.

- CPR/First Aid Training and certification that is current.

Requirements to apply

- Be enrolled in their institution’s Work Integrated Learning and/or Co-op program

- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2; and,

- be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations;

- Must either live in Squamish or be able to commute to work in a timely fashion;

- Ability to work on weekends, holidays, or evenings for events;
