First Transit Canada is hiring a 3 month contract Safety Advisor.
JOB PURPOSE: Under the direction of the Manager of Safety & Training, the Safety Advisor supervises the day-to-day operations of the health & safety program. Ensures compliance with federal, provincial and local regulations as well as company policy
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides support to all aspects of the safety program. This includes coaching, mentoring employees and managers to ensure all safety expectations are understood and met
Investigates incidents and work-related injuries including incident investigation, incident reports, incident files, incident register, and follows up with all internal and external stakeholders as necessary
Oversees the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee. Ensures committee meets its responsibilities under the Workers’ Compensation Act including annual training, and that all documentation is completed
Schedules and supports first aid attendants. Tracks certification in accordance with Regulations. Arranges for recertification as required
Tracks and performs annual WHMIS training and ensures Safety Data Sheets are current. Tracks forklift certification for maintenance employees
Produce monthly & quarterly, reports, memos and safety alerts
Supports the creation, review and maintenance of safe work procedures
Supervises safety programs including supporting emergency wardens and diffusers
Prepares for and participate in safety audits, including COR
Performs the regular duties of the Manager of Safety & Training in his absence, including attending disciplinary meetings where required
Regularly reviews and is familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance
Provides organizational support with relevant safety training and performs regular inspections of sites
Delivers safety orientation training for new employees and contractors
Ensure that training records are maintained and kept up to date
Reviews and coaches’ drivers on Drive Cam events
Conduct COVID contact tracing
Performs other related duties as required
MINIMUM EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
NCSO certificate required
CRSP Designation is considered an asset
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:
2 to 3 years transportation, safety or related experience
Knowledge of federal and provincial rules and regulations regarding safety, transportation and environmental issues
Computer literate with strong working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, multi-task and manage time effectively
Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to appropriately interact with employees of all levels including drivers, customers, senior management, client representatives, union officials and general public
Strong conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Fluent in English
Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Incumbent must be able to move about the office and in the surrounding company facility outside the office (e.g., bus parking lot); utilize standard office equipment; access filing system/cabinets; and communicate effectively and efficiently in person or by telephone.
Ability to travel within service area as needed
Must be able to drive company or personal vehicle to investigate accidents, review driver safety performance or handle other company matters.
The successful candidate for this role will be someone who can work on call
Fly in Fly out position from YYC & YEG. 14 day on 14 day off rotation
