Your Opportunity:

The Manager of Recreation Therapy and Aquatic Therapy plays a key leadership role and performs an operational management role in the Recreation Therapy and Aquatic Therapy, Artist in Residence, Ambulatory Services and other assigned programs and reports directly to the Director, Specialized Geriatrics. This position is responsible and accountable for providing operational management, clinical support, team leadership and organization over the activities of the assigned Programs in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities also include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities.

The position is responsible and accountable for making program-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Recreation Therapy, Aquatic Therapy, Artist in Residence, Ambulatory Services and other programs at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. The Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Volunteer Resources, Managers of other professional services, Managers of patient care programs/units, staff and volunteers to provide leadership to Recreation Therapy, Aquatic Therapy and assigned programs. The Manager, Recreation Therapy and Aquatic Therapy is also responsible for the development and maintenance of an effective framework for the operation of the Specialized Geriatrics (SG) and Adult Rehabilitation (ARD) Ambulatory Services including the direct supervision of administrative support staff in order to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and safe patient care.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree in an Allied Health discipline is required.

 Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and patient/family focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services.  Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.  Demonstrated ability to manage change.  Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment.  Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization; ideally managing within a unionized sector. • Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. • Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. • Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.



Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years in a management role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experience an asset). A degree in Recreation Therapy, Physical Education, or a related area preferred. Eligible for Professional Membership in Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association. Preference given to program management experience.
