Unit Summary

The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by the Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education,

service and research, to bring the highest quality science into health care for the benefit of the community, and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.

Position Summary

The Quality Specialist will assist in the development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of the HRLMP Quality Management System to meet patient, client and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include: Facilitates quality improvement projects using quality tools and standard methodology, development and coordination of Standard Operating Procedures, coordination of internal audits, supports activities for internal audits and external audits such as Ontario Laboratory Accreditation, monitors non-conformances, occurrence reporting, corrective/preventive actions and coordinates the collection and analysis of data for improvement opportunities. Development and coordination of applications for Paradigm II Business Management Software. Coordinates and assists in the development and data analysis of client satisfaction surveys, collaborates to create mechanisms to capture data for key indicators within the LIS and Quality System Software, supports specific activities or projects within the Quality System development, implementation and maintenance.

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday; days


1. Advanced Registered Technologist or BSc in a related science or Bachelor of Technology

2. Current Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologist of Ontario (CMLTO)

3. Demonstrated experience in Clinical Laboratory Medicine operations

4. Demonstrated strong leadership, organization and facilitation skills, customer service orientation, problem solving and project management skills

5. Demonstrated experience in the application of integrated computer systems software

6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Quality Management Systems

7. Demonstrated excellence in communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building, and the ability to initiate and model positive change

8. Knowledge of Laboratory Standards and Regulations

9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office

10. Demonstrated ongoing commitment to professional development

11.Demonstrated initiative in advancing the level of service and quality of the HRLMP or Medical Laboratory Sciences

12. Demonstrated excellence in technical, developmental, research, problem-solving, accreditation requirements, and project management skills

13.Demonstrated excellence in communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change

14.Demonstrated leadership, organization and customer service skills
