Job Description

Reporting directly to the President, Canadian Retail the Director of Planning works with the Canadian leadership team to shape, scope and prioritize key business initiatives across sales and operations, procurement, logistics and Human Resources.

Job Responsibilities

- Develops recommendations on initiatives for the Canadian Retail business unit as part of overall strategic planning process;

- Identifies long-range initiatives that could be part of the 3+ year plan for the business unit;

- Liaises with Vice Presidents and the President to make recommendations on identified initiatives, including scope, resourcing, business benefits and milestones;

- Provides input to VPs and the President on whether to proceed with specific long range initiatives

- Coordinates across all VPs to ensure that all initiatives are incorporated into a strategy/planning roadmap that identifies sequence, milestones and critical path for Canadian Business Unit;

- Potentially could take on business lead roles for 1-2 critical business initiatives with VP sponsorship;

- Drives the one year and three year budgeting process for Canadian Retail, including identification of key initiatives;

- Monitors progress against key initiatives that are critical to one year and three year budgets;

- Partner with VPs and President, Canadian Retail on developing specific pro-forma / business cases, key initiatives or long-range planning activities; and,

- Coaches and monitors performance of team members to ensure that they are delivering against expectations.

Desired Skills & Experience

- Bachelor’s Degree required (Business field preferred); MBA would be considered an asset;

- Experience working with executives to shape long range strategy or strategic initiatives;

- Ability to structure and analyze complex problems, including experience with excel and other analytical tools;

- Strong communication and influencing skills, especially with senior executives;

- Experience working in a retail or multi-unit environment is an asset;

- Leading a project that involved working across multiple functions is an asset;

- Knowledge and experience with operations is an asset;

- Prior experience leading a small team of highly-skilled individuals is an asset;

- Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative, and able to work independently or among diverse teams utilizing keen judgement, collaboration, and resourcefulness;

- Possesses a high level of critical thinking;

- Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information;

- The ability to travel (limited: 1-2 weeks a year);
