This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions. Responsibilities
The purpose of this posting is to collect applicant interest for the PONP Program.
Reporting to the OR manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room works to full scope of practice as an independent practitioner within an inter-professional and collaborative team, providing holistic (addressing bio, psycho, social, cultural and spiritual needs), and comprehensive care for individuals, families, groups, populations and communities across the continuum of care. The RN provides leadership and applies advanced nursing knowledge within specific practice settings, and in-depth nursing knowledge, skills and judgment in providing care to all individuals (includes families, groups, populations and communities).
The RN exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the mission, vision, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and inter-professional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.
This is an educational opportunity that is available to current Registered Nurses interested in attending the Perioperative Nursing Program (PONP). RNs who successfully complete the program will be considered for future vacancies in our District Operating Rooms.

Full Time Hybrid Program (dates are subject to change)
- Currently working as a Registered Nurse and registered in the Province of Nova Scotia
- RN Diploma or Baccalaureate degree in nursing required
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
- Basic computer skills – Microsoft Suite – E-mail, Internet, Meditech
- Successful applicants will agree to complete the program and continue working with the Nova Scotia Health Authority (Central Zone) for a minimum of twelve (12) months as a Registered Nurse in the selected units (at either VG/HI/DGH or Hants community) and will be required to sign a Return of Service agreement
- Applicants may be required to provide a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Shifts: Eight (8), ten (10) and twelve (12) hour shifts depending on OR
On call component
