This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community-based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions. Responsibilities

The IM/IT Business Analyst/ Systems Analyst reports to an IM/IT Manager, and is responsible for the evaluation, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of information management and technology solutions, projects and services across NSHA, IWK and its many external clients. The IM/IT BA/SA collaborates with key clinical and business stakeholders throughout the province as the organization, in partnership with the province’s Internal Services Department and the Department of Health and Wellness, moves towards the rationalization of disparate systems and the OPOR strategy.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

- Maintenance and support of patient identity & encounter management software solutions

- Work with clinical & business advisory groups to provide system solutions that support and enhance the adoption of IMIT Encounter Management systems and supporting business processes to align with NSHA strategic vision and goals.

- Information gathering and documentation of business requirements and end user workflow impacts as they relate to IT systems and processes with a focus on Encounter Management, including Patient Registration, Kiosks, Patient Scheduling, Patient Billing & Accounts Receivable & Registration Location management for MIS reporting & case costing

- Ensures IT systems and processes are implemented and maintained to support the effective and safe delivery of patient information to care providers in a variety of health information applications and registries

- Establish and maintain working relationships between the Clinical and Business stakeholders and IM/IT to determine appropriate IT solutions

- Provides recommendations to the IM/IT PIEM Manager with respect to overall tools and systems of support associated with their areas of accountability utilization reporting, KPI development, financial planning, and performance measurement at a program/service level

- Collaborates as a subject matter expert in encounter and identity management with other team members, vendors and clinical stakeholders

- Participate in clinical IM IT projects related to Patient Encounter Management

- Engages with IM/IT leadership to ensure processes are developed to ensure effective and efficient operations and the consistent achievement of service level agreements and operation requirements

- Complete other duties as assigned in relation to the position description


- Degree or diploma in Health Information Management, Health Related discipline, or Information Technology. Consideration may be given to those with equivalent training and relevant experience

- 5 years’ experience in Business/Systems Analysis with at least 2 years’ experience in business/system analysis or system support for Health Information and Encounter Management Applications

- Health Information Management certification (CHIMA) or experience working in health information management settings an asset.

- Knowledge of the varied information management processes supporting multiple care delivery paths and how they interrelate with other health care disciplines and organizational services an asset.

- Certification in IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), Project Management (PMP) and/or organizational change management an asset. 

- Ability to relay or explain issues or difficult scenarios to clinical and business staff

- Working knowledge of basic systems principles, theories and concepts within healthcare 

- Strong knowledge of health care and technology industry best practice relating to Identity and Encounter management and associated software applications

- Ability to troubleshoot and document issues and problems and implement resolution using clinical best practice knowledge of internal and/or external business issues to improve service

- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills 

- Experience creating summary documentation based on evaluation and analysis

- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to document and solve issues

- Experience in transformational or process analysis to support change management principles 

- Organizational Skills, high level of accuracy and attention to detail

- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Permanent Full-time Position; 75 Hours Bi-weekly

Salary Information

$34.0693 - $42.5865 Hourly
