Business Need / Purpose of Role

The Area Sales Manager will be responsible to lead and develop a dynamic sales team covering both our aftermarket and capital business. This Area Sales Manager is responsible for meeting sales budget targets and delivering on strategic initiatives. This position reports directly to the General Manager Hard Rock Mining. The Area Sales Manager will work aligned with Weir Group Values to partner with all business functions such as; Executive Management, Service, Operations, Engineering, Product & Project Management to align and implement strategies that will position Weir Minerals Canada to grow our aftermarket and capital business in the assigned territory for all of our product technologies and services.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to:

- Develop, implement and execute a strategic sales plan to drive new unit, spares and service results to all customers in the area

- Consistently meet & exceed sales budget targets 

- Could directly support some customers as well as manage and support a dynamic sales team to identify and close new business opportunities for all product technologies & services within the area

- Facilitate technical support and aftermarket assistance between the sales team, the service technicians and our product managers

- Strategically partner with our customers to come up with innovative value added solutions to make our customers more successful

- Manage and support the sales team to provide strategies and solutions to each of the key area accounts. 

- Develop and maintain a high-level list of strong client relationships with existing and prospective clients to maintain our competitive positioning and to also provide valuable input on our company supplied products and services

- Facilitate partnerships from various business functions (Executive Management, Sales, Engineering, Product & Project Management & Service) within the company

- Coordinate, manage & implement customer agreements with pre-approved terms and conditions

- Active participation in bid proposals and strategy

- Thoroughly complete annual budgets, as well as regular forecasts;

- Support and conduct high level sales presentations for clients and internal stakeholders

- Input on general strategy and business as an Active member of the Hard Rock Mining Leadership table

- Assure optimal stock levels in the areas warehouses

- Meet all Personal Business Objectives inclusive to a Personal Development Plan set in agreement with the supervisor and executive management team

- Act and behave aligned with our Weir Group Values

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications


Bachelor Degree or Technical Diploma (Example; Engineering Technologist or equivalent) in Engineering or relevant technical discipline, preferably specializing in rotating equipment, pumps or other equipment designed for Mineral processing or related to severe duty market segments.

A minimum of (10-15) years of combined experience in technical sales and/or sales management of engineered pumping equipment and packaged solutions, or other engineered industrial equipment used in the Oil & Gas, Minerals or related severe duty market segments.

Strong preference will be given to candidates with prior capital sales and/or aftermarket sales experience with engineered products and a proven track record of sales growth of multi-million dollar accounts or territory. In-depth understanding of mineral processing applications and pumps would be considered an asset.

Strong sales aptitude and clean driving record are required. Excellent people leadership skills, prior managerial experience is an advantage.

P. Eng or Certified Engineering Technologist designation would be considered an asset.

Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or regulations. Ability to write detailed reports and business correspondence. Exceptional ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and employees of the company. Solid active listening skills and consultative approach to selling. Strong skills in reading, writing and speaking in English. French knowledge is considered an asset.

Mathematical Skills & Reasoning Ability:

Excellent numerical skills to understand, interpret and troubleshoot complex engineering problems and commercial aspects of sales management. Excellent commercial acumen. Ability to lead, teach and mentor less experienced colleagues.

Computer Skills: The incumbent should have knowledge of the following software: Microsoft Windows / Office. Experience or exposure to ERP software or engineering design software is considered an asset.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  P. Eng. or, CET, Designation would be considered an asset.

Traveling: Approximately ~40% travel on a consistent basis is required for this role. Travel will require over nights and at times will be more or less than the percentage shown. Overseas travel may be required.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, field and mining site conditions. The incumbent will work across regular office environments, manufacturing plants and customer mining sites. Estimated to 40 percent travel expected for the purpose of visiting customers and/or customer sites, where additional Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required, including safety footwear and glasses.
