The LDB is one of two branches of government responsible for the cannabis and liquor industry of B.C. We operate the wholesale distribution of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis within the province, as well as the household retail brands of BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores.

In Human Resources (HR), we support a large, distributed organization with a range of services from our Talent & Compensation, Organizational Development & Change, Employee Relations and Investigations, and Occupational Health and Safety teams. Reporting to the Executive Director, Human Resources, the position leads a team of professionals conducting investigations and providing labour relations advice in an environment where labour and employment law, regulations and policy are continually evolving. This position leads complex investigations promoting effective employer and employee relations.



The Director, Employee Relations and Investigations is a key position in a well-established and respected organization. This position is a crucial role within the Human Resources Division, responsible for the programs and services for employee relations and investigations. The Director develops, coaches, mentors and leads a team comprised of unionized and excluded management positions.



The Director is a reliable and trusted Senior HR Practitioner that provides strategic council and senior advice on all matters relating to Employee Relations and Investigations. The Director is a solutions specialist with demonstrated talent in the areas of communication, analytical and critical thinking, and the ability to apply good judgement to complex situations to achieve effective and efficient dispute resolution.



This position may require the ability to travel overnight within the Province of British Columbia. A criminal record check is required.

Position Requirements:



Education and Experience:



Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as law or business administration. An equivalent combination of education and recent experience may be considered; candidates with 5 years of progressive, recent and relevant experience as defined below combined with a diploma or certificate in a related field may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.



Applicants must have achieved extensive related and relevant experience, including experience at a senior level, that would enable them to achieve and be successful at meeting the goals and objectives of the position.



Related and relevant experience includes:





- Progressive management experience in a changing environment, including providing leadership to and developing senior advisor level staff, as well as leading a large team of advisory and administrative staff.

- Progressive labour relations experience at a senior level, including interpreting collective agreements, HR legislations, policies and procedures, and terms and conditions; negotiating and resolving conflict situations with the intent to develop mutually acceptable conditions; leading complex negotiations; conducting and overseeing workplace investigations; representing cases at quasi-judicial hearings; applying due diligence regarding legal implications and applying various Acts and policies to a variety of complex situations.

- Providing consultative advice and expertise on relevant and complex HR matters in a unionized environment to human resource practitioners, managers and supervisors; communicating research findings and policy advice to audiences of senior decision makers and labour relations specialists.

- Experience in business transformation and change leadership initiatives.
