Position Description:

The Institute for Mental Health Policy Research (IMHPR) at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is home to leading scientific experts who are dedicated to informing policy and practice on mental illness. IMHPR scientists conduct collaborative research on communities, populations, health systems, and global health, and they develop and evaluate prevention and intervention initiatives. The IMHPR is committed to equity,

informed by the social determinants of health. The IMHPR is currently seeking a research assistant who will report to the Head of the World Health Organization / Pan American Health Organization Collaborating Centre in Addiction and Mental Health at CAMH.

The Research Analyst must demonstrate a methodological understanding of and advanced skills in systematic reviews, risk measurement, and the measurement of alcohol at the population level using various data sources including general population surveys. The research Analyst will be responsible for systematically reviewing articles concerning (a) the impact of economic crises and natural disasters on alcohol consumption and its harms, and (b) surveys of adolescents and their alcohol consumption. Further, he or she must also demonstrate a methodological understanding of the standardization of data from different sources by correcting for various differences in study design. Finally, the research Analyst must demonstrate a methodological understanding of curating databases. The research Analyst will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applications and regulatory requirements. This position is currently located at CAMH, 33 Ursula Street, Toronto.


The successful applicants will have at a Bachelor’s degree in the social or health sciences combined with one (1) years’ experience in research, applicants whose previous experience has focused on systematic reviews would be an asset. A publication record and proven aptitude in writing peer-reviewed publications is an asset. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities is essential. Superior communication (verbal/written), interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential. The candidate will have a demonstrated ability in the design and management of research that includes data collection, the management and analysis of quantitative data, the use of statistical software (R, SPSS, Mplus, STATA, SAS), and the writing of reports and papers. Expertise in qualitative data collection and analytic approaches is considered an asset. The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, decision makers, and the scientific community is required. The candidate must be able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team and interact comfortably with diverse community partners while conducting his or her own independent research. The ability to work with individuals of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is required. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language are considered assets.

Please Note:  These two (2) full-time (6 month) contract positions are part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.

Salary Range:  $24.60 – $32.81 per hour
