FULL TIME FASD COMMUNITY ADVOCATE (OPEN ARMS)– Edmonton, AB (up to 13 month contract)



Unlimited Potential Community Services (UP) isa non-profit charitable society that has been providing quality support andtreatment since 1987. Our goal is to restore stability and hope in the lives ofchildren, youth, adults, and families so they can achieve personal independenceand family unity. Program/Position overview: We are currentlylooking for an individual who has a passion for working with adults with FASD(men and/or women). Successful candidates must also be willing to act as asupportive advocate and mentor. Collaboration and advocacy with otherprofessionals to develop plans that will assist our clients in being successfulin meeting their goals. 



The ideal candidate will possess: 



- The ability to work independently and aspart of a team, demonstrating strong interpersonal, organizational,time-management and communication (oral and written) skills



- An understanding of FASD and the secondarydisabilities of individuals affected by FASD 



- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenousculture, customs and beliefs 



- Understanding of current and emerging issuesof importance to Indigenous people and communities 



- Have strong advocacy skills with the abilityto maintain high level of professionalism under stress 



- Possess good conflict resolution skills, beresults oriented, a team player and positive role model for others 



- The ability to identify the issues thatsurround poverty and demonstrate an extensive knowledge of resources andsupports within the Edmonton area 



- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibilityand adaptability 



Qualifications/Experience: Must have a diploma/degreein Human Services (if education is in Social Work, must be registered SocialWorker with the Alberta College of Social Workers) education or related field.Previous experience working in community outreach programs is preferred.Equivalences will be considered.



Other requirements: A current, clear PoliceInformation Check (vulnerable sector included) and Child Intervention RecordCheck, both dated within the last 6 months. A valid AB driver’s licence(minimum class 5) and current driver's abstract (no more than 8 demerits). Mustbe willing to work shifts, sometimes alone and weekends. 



Salary & Benefits: Salary range is$42,265.00- $61,591.00 annually (salary commensurate with education andexperience). We provide full-time employees with a 100% employer paid healthbenefits package (which includes vision, dental and prescription drug coverage,massage therapy, etc.) and a 100% employer paid RRSP equaling 3% of annualsalary. We also offer free courses and workshops in-house for all of our employees.
