DETAILS: Full-time Contract (virtual position)

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

SALARY: $50,000



Position Summary

The Fundraising and Communications Coordinator will serve as the liaison between For

Youth Initiative and external stakeholders through a community engagement strategy in

support of the agency’s 2019-24 Strategic Plan. Reporting directly to the Executive

Director, the Fundraising and Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing

relationships through targeted outreach and increasing public awareness of FYI’s various

programs, services and impact. The Fundraising and Communications Coordinator will

also lead and support FYI’s efforts to build positive relationships with external



stakeholders to drive our stewardship and advocacy efforts to build greater sustainability

for the organization and our ability to support the York South-Weston community at large.



Main Tasks & Responsibilities



- Maintain excellent working relations with Board Members, volunteers, members,



donors, funders, and community stakeholders including elected officials on behalf

of FYI



- Represent FYI on the External Relations Committee which is responsible for



leading the organization’s fundraising, communications and community

engagement activities



- Lead coordination and execution of FYI’s major events planned for the year with a



focus on engaging external stakeholders for a virtual Annual General Meeting,

25th-anniversary celebrations



- Is proactive in researching and identifying potential funding, donation and



sponsorship sources to meet FYI program and organizational needs

- Stewards relationships with donors, sponsors, funders, volunteers by maintaining



communication, responding to requests and recognizing their contributions to FYI

- Leads execution of FYI’s Communications Strategy with support from designated



FYI staff

- Manage and maintain FYI’s Social Media presence including organizational



website and publishing quarterly newsletters; coordinates staff to support updates

as needed



- Establish a donor management system to create a seamless experience for online



donations and receipting





- Update organizational CRM with contact information for funders, donors, sponsors,



volunteers and other key stakeholders for all staff to maintain





- Provides administrative support to the Executive Director as needed

- Supervises part-time staff and students hired to support community engagement



activities



Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years of work experience in event planning, communications, media and

public relations, fundraising, non-profit management, project management or a related

field is required. The minimum level of education preferred is a College or University

program in a relevant field.



Skills, Knowledge & Experience:





- Minimum of 2 years of experience in previous community engagement, fundraising,



public relations or administration experience





- Experience assisting an Executive Director or supporting a management team

- Project management and/or event planning

- Meeting planning and coordination.

- Comfort connecting with partner organizations, including other nonprofits as well as



corporate entities





- Experience developing grants applications for government, foundation, and



corporate funding programs





- Experience managing media relations, including preparing media advisories etc.

- Strong copywriting skills

- A demonstrated ability to work in culturally diverse or underserved communities,



with a particular understanding of the complexities facing youth from said

communities



- Has an understanding of community-based, youth-led and youth-serving work,



common models of service provision, and functions of non-profit organizational

structures



- Must also have experience working within an anti-oppressive and anti-racist



framework and proven commitment to social justice issues
