The Wildlife Branch of Natural Resources and Indigenous Futures is currently recruiting to fill the position of Regional Wildlife Manager for Thompson, MB.

Duties:

Reporting to the Section Manager of Engagement and Operations, the Regional Wildlife Manager is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and overall administration of regional wildlife management programs for the Northeast Region. Responsibilities include budget planning and administration, program and policy development at the provincial and regional level, program implementation and evaluation, staff supervision, client service, resource inventory, planning and allocation as well as representing departmental wildlife interests regionally. The Regional Wildlife Manager is responsible for working with and maintaining relationships with municipalities, Indigenous and Northern Communities within the region. In addition,



the Regional Wildlife Manager works with local wildlife associations including licensed and rights-based users, and various other interested parties, as well as ensuring wildlife activities will be conducted with the appropriate level of scientific rigor.

Qualifications:

Essential:

- University degree in biology and/or natural resource management or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience leading the development, implementation and evaluation of complex natural resource management actions, plans, programs and projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster positive working relationships and resolve conflict within internal and external relationships.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work activities and meet deadlines.
- Experience applying wildlife legislation, policies and guidelines to make and recommend wildlife management decisions.
- Experience supervising staff, including addressing performance management issues, developing work plans and learning/training plans.
- Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and non-technical information in a transparent manner to a variety of audiences.
- Strong written communication skills such as drafting management plans, technical reports, advisory notes, and correspondence with a high degree of accuracy, clarity and conciseness.
- Knowledge and understanding of the treaties within Manitoba and Section 35 consultation requirements with Indigenous communities.




- Ability to work independently.

Desired:

- Experience in financial administration and budget planning.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in rough terrain and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence (or equivalent)
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required
- Some overnight travel in the province may be required
- Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the Province of Manitoba, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile
