Overview
Commercial Truck Equipment is looking to add an experienced Parts Manager to our recently renovated, state-of-the-art 47,000 sq. ft. Edmonton, AB branch. Reporting to the Branch Manager, and working closely with the service team, the Parts Manager will be responsible for all warehousing, parts sales, and parts purchasing functions at the branch, including direct supervision of a large parts and warehouse team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for day-to-day operations and management of a complex and multi-million dollar parts operation, supporting walk-in retail customers, parts for a large service operation, and procurement for new builds in the work truck industry. The Parts Manager is also responsible for monitoring and improving warehousing, inventory, and purchasing procedures, as well as logistical planning, documentation, internal customer service, and other projects/tasks related to warehouse and facility management. The Parts Manager will also serve as the main point-of-contact to our lineup of industry-leading vendors, growing and maintaining relationships, while negotiating effectively to ensure the right parts arrive on-time and on-budget.

Responsibilities
The Parts Manager has an extremely broad and diverse set of responsibilities, and the successful candidate must have an exceptional ability to solve small day-to-day problems whilst keeping broader objectives and long-term projects on track.
Parts Department Leadership & Operations
- Lead, organize, and oversee all daily operations of the Parts Department, ensuring efficient, accurate, and timely parts sales and support across service, production, and customer-facing channels.
- Set priorities and allocate resources to meet internal and external demand, including service repairs, new equipment builds, refurbishments, warranty work, and walk-up / counter sales.
- Maintain and improve SOPs for parts receiving, stocking, picking, kitting, issuing, returns, and cycle counting.
- Ensure consistent execution of safety, housekeeping, and material-handling best practices within the warehouse environment.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, coach, support, and supervise Parts Department staff, including parts counter personnel, warehouse staff, and coordinators.
- Schedule staff appropriately to meet operational demand and service levels.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and customer service excellence.
- Conduct performance reviews, set goals, and support ongoing training and development.
Inventory Management & Control
- Maintain accurate inventory levels across a large and diverse parts portfolio, including OEM, aftermarket, fabricated, electrical, hydraulic, drivetrain, and chassis-mounted components.
- Forecast parts demand based on historical usage, upcoming builds, seasonal trends, and service workload to minimize stockouts and excess inventory.
- Plan, oversee, and execute cycle counts, physical inventories, and reconciliation processes to maintain inventory accuracy.
- Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and surplus inventory and develop strategies for return, redistribution, or write-down.
- Maintain proper part numbering, descriptions, bin locations, and traceability within our inventory management system.
Production, Service & Build Support
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to the Parts team in support of production, engineering, project management, and service operations, ensuring parts availability aligns with build schedules, service demand, and business priorities.
- Establish and maintain processes that ensure accurate BOMs, proactively identifying and mitigating risks related to lead times, specification changes, and cost impacts.
- Direct planning, kitting, staging, and prioritization strategies to optimize production flow, reduce downtime, and support on-time delivery of current builds and repaired units.
- Lead the evaluation and sourcing strategy for alternate or equivalent components to support engineering changes, custom configurations, and service continuity.
- Ensure the Parts team delivers high-quality technical support, including accurate part identification, cross-referencing, supersession management, and fitment guidance.
- Oversee warranty parts strategy and compliance, including core management, returns, and adherence to OEM requirements.
Customer Service & Counter Sales
- Oversee exceptional walk-up, phone, after-hours, and email parts sales to external customers, ensuring a high level of service, product knowledge, and professionalism.
- Support customers with accurate part identification, recommendations, pricing, availability, and lead times.
- Resolve customer issues related to parts availability, backorders, incorrect shipments, or returns in a timely and professional manner.
- Grow and maintain strong relationships with fleet customers, municipalities, emergency services, and owner-operators.
Vendor & Supplier Management
- Source parts from OEMs, distributors, and specialty suppliers while balancing cost, quality,
availability, and lead time.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and freight arrangements where applicable.
- Monitor supplier performance and address issues related to delivery, quality, backorders, or warranty support.
Financial & Performance Management
- Manage the Parts Department budget, including inventory investment, obsolescence, freight costs, and gross margin targets.
- Monitor and report on KPIs such as inventory turns, fill rates, backorders, order accuracy, and parts revenue.
- Ensure accurate pricing, cost control, and margin management for both internal and external parts transactions.
- Support month-end and year-end counts, audits, and financial reporting requirements.
Warehouse, Shipping & Receiving Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight of warehouse operations, ensuring efficient, safe, and well-organized receiving, storage, picking, and shipping of parts supporting production, service, and customer requirements.
- Maintain, enforce, and improve processes that ensure accurate receiving, inspection, documentation, and system entry of inbound parts, including verification against purchase orders and build requirements.
- Monitor inventory flow, layout, and material-handling strategies that optimize space utilization, reduce handling time, and improve overall warehouse efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, housekeeping expectations, and proper handling of large, heavy, and hazardous components, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of warehousing and parts equipment; forklifts, shelving and racking, bins and containers, toolboxes and drawers, etc.
Systems, Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure accurate and timely data entry and maintenance within our inventory management system.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, OEM requirements, warranty procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain and improve clear documentation for parts processes, training materials, and departmental workflows.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful applicant will have a mix of the following qualifications and experience. Commercial is looking for someone who has the experience to make a smooth transition into this position and hit the ground running.
- Proven leadership skills, with demonstrated experience managing and leading mid-size teams
- Minimum 5 years warehouse/parts/purchasing-related experience
- Formal training in inventory management is desirable, and experience with ERP and Inventory software is important
- Valid Class-5 driver's license is mandatory, licensure above Class 5 is considered an asset.
- CSA Standard B335-15 - Industrial Lift Truck Operator Training or equivalent is an asset, but not required
- Post-secondary education in logistics, warehouse, or transportation is an asset
- Knowledge of the truck or heavy equipment industry would be very beneficial
- Strong computer skills including Office 365 and particularly Excel are required
