Job Summary

The data steward is accountable for the management and fitness of pre-defined domains of master data elements such as Material, Customer, Vendor and Finance related master data. Collaborating closely with data owners and participating in an overall master data governance and management process, data stewards are responsible for managing all aspects of pre-defined data with respect to data integrity, accuracy as well as privacy where required. They possess strong process domain and data management knowledge, and have skills in analysis, facilitation and negotiation, and communication.

Additional Details

- Creating data definitions and defining data ownership for key master data elements that encompass:

- Where and how the master data is used in systems and processes under their assigned data domain(s)
- Naming standards and field-by-field definitions of content requirements from hierarchical and individual master record perspectives
- Ensuring that business rules are defined, maintained and kept updated as required within data definitions
- Creating and maintaining documentation on policies, procedures, business glossary and taxonomy for assigned data domain(s)

- Developing, implementing and providing oversight for data management processes
- Defining and implementing tools and processes for the creation, access, update and deletion of master data elements in the context of corporate master data management practices, ensuring that key systems integration points, data sources and data mapping processes are incorporated
- Providing hands-on oversight for data management processes once implemented, ensuring conformance to defined standards
- Provides direction for investigations and corrective actions relating to master data issues

- Driving data cleansing
- Leading and directly participating in data cleansing activities that identify gaps between defined data definitions and existing data, collaborating with the data owners and maintenance teams to cleanse inconsistencies

- Data Audits and Monitoring
- Defining, implementing and operating structured regular audit and monitoring program, ensuring continued conformance to data definition requirements once data cleansing has been completed
- Defining, implementing and communicating key data quality metrics
- Ensuring that security requirements are appropriate in support of data management processes, limiting systems access for the creation/update/deletion of master data elements to appropriate end users

- Communication / Training
- Train process participants in data definition, cleansing and data management processes
- Ensure strong integration between diverse stakeholders, including broader master data management areas and functional stakeholders of specific data elements
- Ensure strong ongoing communication of data management process status and issues to key sponsors & leaders

- Works as a member of a team to achieve all outcomes.

- Performs all work in accordance with all established regulatory and compliance and safety requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.

Candidate Background

- Post-Secondary education and/or University degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Strong functional and data-specific understanding of relevant business process areas, including integration to other areas
- General understanding of data modelling & data warehouse concepts
- Robust SAP cross module knowledge and/or experience or equivalent knowledge with another Enterprise system (applicable to Material, Customer and Vendor roles)
- Project management experience an asset
- Strong computer skills particularly Excel and Access
- Ability to make quick and sound data-driven decisions
- Strong knowledge of data management principles, with experience in data analysis processes & tools (i.e. IVM (Information Value Management; etc.)
- Self-starter, with demonstrated ability to plan, lead and manage – driving cleansing efforts and leading CRUD processes for defined master data elements
- Solid communication and ability at conflict resolution – reconciling competing stakeholder & process needs
