Canola Germplasm Enhancement Breeder

Your tasks and responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role, Canola Germplasm Enhancement Breeder, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, are to:

- Provides technical leadership and insight to develop and advance innovations and well as germplasm management oversight and leverage that supports the seed & trait product pipelines for the Rape Seed Pipelines in North America and Europe
- Drives the design and proof of concepts execution to deliver disruptive innovation efforts and its implementation on breeding pipelines focused on biotech and native traits, genomic selection, phenotypic selection, breeding methodologies, and analytics while partnering with functions across the Bayer business

Key Tasks:
- Designs and deliver technical innovations to support precision breeding by leveraging genomic insights, data science, analytics and deploying rapid and prescriptive recombination schemes in rapeseed
- Supports execution of Precision Breeding strategies that pertain to rapid inbred development, accurate genomic selection and reliable phenotypic assessment
- Supports in collaboration with key partners the design and implementation of strategies that drive molecular marker platforms evolution, genomic selection modelling and haplotype mining and deployment
- Integrates multi-functional breeding teams across North America and partners across other world regions (LATAM, EMEA and APAC) to support the of innovations for Precision Breeding, with a key focus on driving genetic gain and product performance through digital transformation and new technology development and deployment
- As key member of the Canola Breeding team, supports the program to deliver genetic gain in the short and long term with focus on germplasm management to support the short and long term objectives
- Supports the Health Safety & Environment, Compliance, Business Conduct and Human Rights policies and culture in the site

Who are you
Your success will be driven by your demonstrations of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possess the following:

- PhD degree or Masters Degree with 3 years relevant experience, experience in Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, or Data Science or breeding programs or applied data science projects preferred
- Project management experience
- Experience in analysis of large biological data sets, quantitative genetics, statistical genetics, as well as coding experience in R or Python
- Strong ability in building cross-functional partnerships to drive innovation focused in solving business problems
- Customer-centricity, with proven record of identifying customer needs, prioritizing resources, and bring timely and sustainable solutions
