Responsibilities

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Back-End Developer with NodeJS experience to join a highly motivated and talented team, building NodeJS microservices using the latest AWS technologies and creating systems that are highly available and can scale.

We work at every stage of the software development life cycle, so we expect you’ll be capable of designing solutions, writing and testing your code, and know how to handle automated deployments.

We favor quality over quantity. That’s why we take time to review every piece of code that gets merged. But, that doesn’t mean we don’t move fast - we aim to deploy to production at least twice a week!

Our team members often have side projects, or go to conference and meetups. That’s one of our ways to drive innovation: by bringing ideas tested elsewhere, enabling our team members to provide input and influence in to the decisions we make, and ensuring best practice is carefully combined with the latest technologies to help us to develop an effective basis for future developments.

Succeeding as a Back-End Developer will require the following core qualifications and skills:

- Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology (IT) or a related field is preferred, or equivalent work experience with a focus on software development is required
- 3+ years of software development experience is required
- 3+ years of experience in JavaScript, including experience building NodeJS back-end applications is required
- Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases including MongoDB, DynamoDB, and MySQL is required
- Experience practicing Test Driven Development (TDD), as well as Behavior Driven Development (BDD) is required
- Experience with additional programming languages, specifically PHP or Python, is preferred
- Additional experience with mobile and web application development is an asset
- Familiarity with API gateways, configuration and rate limiting is an asset
- Practical knowledge of event-driven microservice architecture and the Serverless framework is an asset
- Practical knowledge of the AWS stack, specifically Lambda and DynamoDB is an asset
- Proven success monitoring, optimizing and improving software that is already live
- Understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery tools and systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional critical thinking, and problem solving skills
- Ability to work with a cross-functional team, in an agile environment
- Ability to work independently, with passion for software development and a strong desire for continuous learning
