As part of the Cenovus Crude oil trading team, support all aspects of trading activity. This role would be a good fit for a someone with 1-3 years of experience on a trading desk, or potentially a recent university graduate.
Run daily position and PnL reports for the crude oil trading team. This includes reconciling trader spreadsheets to the internal risk system and Cenovus clearing bank reports.
Thoroughly understand and interpret various deals transacted by the trading team and question any details that do not look accurate.
Troubleshoot and resolve all issues related to physical and price positions.
Assist traders with deal entry.
Manage forward pricing and settlement data.
Maintain and improve blending, storage, and supply/demand models and data used by the crude oil trading team.
Update and maintain documentation of all trade desk procedures.
Assist traders manage the implementation of a new ETRM system, which will include rebuilding existing processes and procedures developed under legacy systems.
Improve existing processes by challenging current methodologies and operating assumptions.
Assist trade team with ad-hoc research and analysis.
Prepare special reports for VP Trading.
Required education and skills:
Post-secondary education - preference will be given to candidates with degrees in Math, Statistics, Economics, or Engineering.
Experience on a trade desk operating under a daily PnL and position reporting framework.
Understanding of physical and price positions.
Attention to detail.
Strong math skills.
Basic knowledge of relational databases and SQL queries.
Expert excel skills including an ability to record and modify VBA macros.
Very motivated self-starter with a bias for action and drive for continuous improvement.
Open minded, flexible.
Ability to challenge and persuade traders and other team members.
